Sense and Sensibility

Jane Austen 1811

When Mr. Dashwood dies, he must leave most of his estate to the son of his first marriage, leaving his second wife and three daughters (Elinor, Marianne and Margaret) in difficult circumstances. They are taken in by a kind cousin, but their lack of fortune affects the marriage prospects of both the practical Elinor and the romantic Marianne. When Elinor falls in love with the wealthy Edward Ferrars, her family disapproves and separates them. And although Mrs. Jennings tries to match the worthy (and wealthy) Colonel Brandon with her, Marianne finds the handsome and fiery Willoughby more to her taste. Both relationships are severely tested. But this is a romance, and through hardship and heartbreak, true love and a happy ending will find their way to both the sister who is all sense and the one who is all feeling. - Editor.
