Emma

Jane Austen 1815

Jane Austen's Emma is a novel about youthful arrogance and the dangers of misinterpreted romance. The novel was first published in December 1815. As in her other novels, Austen explores the concerns and difficulties of gentile women living in Georgian Regency England; It also creates a lively comedy of manners between its characters. Before beginning the novel, Austen wrote, "I'm going to choose a heroine that no one but me will like very much." In the first sentence, he introduces the main character as "Emma Woodhouse, pretty, smart, and rich." Emma, however, is also quite spoiled, stubborn, and self-satisfied; vastly overestimates your own dating skills; she is blind to the dangers of meddling in other people's lives; and her imagination and perceptions often lead her astray.
